Buerger’s Disease

What is Buerger's Disease?
Buerger's disease is a vascular condition that causes inflammation and blockage in peripheral arteries (small blood vessels in extremities like hands and feet). This condition primarily affects young adults and smokers.
What are the Symptoms / Causes?
Symptoms of Buerger's disease may include peripheral circulation problems such as pain, coldness, numbness, color changes, and limited mobility. Diagnosis can be made through typical symptoms, physical examination findings, and imaging tests (such as angiography).
While the exact cause of Buerger's disease is not fully known, it is commonly associated with smoking. Smoking can lead to a series of harmful effects that may cause inflammation and blockage of vessel walls.
Treatment Methods
Treatment for Buerger's disease involves smoking cessation. Smoking cessation therapy is critically important for smokers with this condition. Medications can be used for pain management, and in some cases, procedures to improve blood circulation may be necessary, such as balloon angioplasty or surgical revascularization.
